Share the Harvest

Carousel Gardens will be participating once again in the Share the Harvest program with Philabundance Food Bank. During the summer on Fridays and Saturday mornings we accept donations of fresh fruits and vegetables which will then be distributed to many organizations that help feed the hungry in the Delaware Valley.

Philabundance set their goal for 2011 for 10,000 lbs of fresh produce. At the end of the season the final total of fruits and veggies raised was 9,652 lbs – a 27% increase over 2010. They also received financial donations which when converted into lbs of food brought the grand total to 10,762 meals for our neighbors in need across the region.

If you like to garden and would like to help feed the hungry think about planting an extra plant or two or an extra row or two. No donation is too small or too large. If you need help to get started we would be glad to help you with advice and or suggestions for your garden.

Last year Carousel Gardens collected 2,397 lbs from our local gardeners! Thanks to all who are helping us drive hunger from our communities. I enjoy seeing all the produce coming in and hearing what is and isn’t working in the garden this year.
We hope that you will consider Planting a row for Hunger so that we can Squash Hunger.

Check back later for 2012 collection dates in July – September.
